Chocolate Maca Smoothie
This maca smoothie is decadent, creamy, chocolatey, rich and tastes like a chocolate malt shake. My dad’s favorite kind of milkshake.
When I am not pregnant, this is one of my go-to post workout smoothies.
It hits the spot like a Wendy’s Frosty did for me in High School… only this version is nourishing (and only proves how old I am that I am comparing this refreshing smoothie to a fast-food favorite).
You might be wondering… What’s Maca? (pronounced Mahhhhhcahhh).
Maca is a root that’s grown in South America and has been used for its medicinal benefits for many thousands of years. Maca is considered to be an adaptogen and contains protein, fiber, magnesium, and even has a higher calcium level than milk. Maca benefits can include increased fertility in men and women, hormone balance, PMS relief, energy, mood, and memory boost.
After my IUI procedures, I was having this smoothie on the regular. I started off with 1/2 tablespoon of maca and worked my way up to 1 tablespoon over time.
